THE DISTRICT OF CITY OF ÚSTÍ NAD LABEM
The City of Ústí nad Labem is famous for its industrial history and heritage joined. The City arose around the industry. The social-economic change in 1989 after 40 years of communist regime brought along closure of many industrial, agricultural and residential facilities. Usti nad Labem is among the top ten cities in the Czech Republic. It has a population of around 100,000 and is located close to the German Border. Its backbone is the River Elbe. The City “creates” traffic junction of water, road and rail roads. It is its strength as well as weakness, because the area offers space for brownfields.
The City must head lack of knowledge of number of brownfields in the City space. To be able to start working on brownfields´ regeneration and to use them as products of enhancing the city economy, it is necessary to take its inventory. The area of the city has already scooped out the greenland for industry and also in the city centre are no more plots to be built up.
Objectives and activities of the planned pilot project are:
• data collection and setting up a register of brownfield redevelopment potential, providing all relevant information required by international investors,
• creating of brownfields GIS layer;
• generating database;
• web solution;
• assistance of mapping brownfields.
