DUBLIN, IRELAND 21-24 May 2012

Dublin Brownfield Days
(PP7 City of Usti nad Labem)
The 7th Brownfield Days (BDs) were successfully conducted in Dublin, Ireland 21-24 May 2012. The activity was part of the overall strategy of the B-Team project (implemented via Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC) in the exchange of experiences in Brownfield regeneration. Tereza Dostalova and Marta Saskova from PP7 took part at this innovative event, shared COBRAMAN experience and listened to reccomendations given by the B Team partnership.
The focus of these particular Brownfield Days were on the theme; Can Urban Spaces Alone Regenerate Brownfield Places? The four main workshop subthemes were; 1) Role of urban design, 2) Connectivity, 3) Diversity and vitality enliven Brownfield sites, 4) Heritage and the natural environment.
The first day of the activity included opening of the programme, introduction of the host city and the case study site, bus and walking tour. There was also a presentation on City planning and current issues for Dublin. The next days focused on the presentation of guest experts on the four (4) themes, continuation of workshop activities, and discussions on the main ideas for the final presentation.
On the final day, the B-Team project and workshops results were presented to the city officials, elected members and to all project stakeholders in City Hall.

The strategic Policy Committee of Dublin City council, with responsibility for Economic development, Planning and International Relations, made the pledge at the meeting on 25th September 2012.

STUTTGART, GERMANY 20-21 April 2012

Planning and Strategy Workshop on Pilot Site Schoch Area
(organised by PP2 City of Stuttgart)
In October 2011 the City of Stuttgart informed the public about the new development of the pilot site called "Schoch Area" in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. The Citizens did already participate with ideas on the site development then. And they have been invited to further public participation on these development activities. Therefore the City of Stuttgart organised a Planning and Strategy Workshop on Pilot Site Schoch Area on 20.-21.04.2012.
Over 60 participants discussed very fruitful and developed ideas for the future use of the site, which has been a former industrial site with highly contaminated land. With experts on city planning, environmental protection and real estates from the City of Stuttgart the motivated citizens discussed on topics like maintaining of buildings, the structure of housing and land use on the new area and the periphery of the site. The conclusions will be presented to the city council and be integrated into the competition for urban planning.
At the end of the workshop the results have been presented to the press. This workshop has been great success for the COBRAMAN team of the City of Stuttgart and will leave its marks within the citizen´s mind.

International Scientific Conference "Revitalization of industrial heritage" (COBRAMAN presented by Grzegorz Boroń and Krzysztof Sikora by PP3 The University of Economy in Bydgoszcz)
The main objective of the conference was to present complex issues of revitalizing brownfields programme. In many areas it is reasonable to support projects by the Structural Funds, also in the framework of URBACT and JESSICA financial instrument. The conference was designed to strengthen local government in implementing the revitalization. During the meeting was taken following topics:
- Multiannual programming of investment in industrial areas;
- Experience of good practice based on examples of projects;
- Obtaining public funding for projects in the period 2013-2020;
- Instruments of socialization process of revitalization;
- Problems of research techniques and heritage of the industrial area remediation.
The conference was addressed to the local government decision-makers: mayors, presidents, mayors and city board members, chairmen of the councils of cities - those that guide strategic planning, representatives of regional development agencies, the provincial government, enterprises and local companies and NGO leaders about conservation profile techniques. Honorary Patronage of the Conference was taken by the President of the Industrial Development Agency and the Secretary General of the Polish Committee for UNESCO.

Public event on Stuttgart’s pilot site „Schoch Area“
(organised by PP2 City of Stuttgart)
On 15th of October 2011 the City of Stuttgart opened the doors of their pilot site in Stuttgart-Feuerbach called „Schoch Area“. The former industrial buildings were not accessible to the public for years due to private ownership. Since July 2011 the City owns this real estate and now intends to establish new uses for this area as “gateway to Feuerbach”. To promote further development on the Schoch Area the COBRAMAN team of Stuttgart organised a “Day of the open Schoch Area” to inform local public, politics and potential investors about facts, challenges and chances of the plot. Mayor Matthias Hahn opened the event on 10:00 AM. During 5 hours about 40 members of the municipality from different departments showed site immanent aspects such as matters of remediation, the condition of existing buildings in guided tours and urban development projects in an exhibition. In parallel all heads of departments involved gave lectures on the local situation and the upcoming intensive participatory process. Around 500 people visited the event and participated in the discussions concerning the future of the location. The public event was the first impulse of an open discussion with inhabitants of the districts and other interested stakeholders bringing in new ideas for the development of the space. In 2012 - even after the end of COBRAMAN project - the process of participation will be prosecuted by the administration of Stuttgart with the aim of a high standard and successful marketing.


MOST, CZECH REPUBLIC 3 October 2011

2nd Local workshop (organised by PP4 City of Most)
Project partner city of Most organised a 2nd lokal workshop of project Cobraman on 3. 10. 2011. The workshop was attended by representatives of local governments led by the deputy for development, investment and urban services. Project manager of project partner city of Most Karel Bořecký introduced the content of individual studies prepared as outputs of the project. The studies include technical solutions for Most site, economic evaluation of locality, marketing improvement and brownfield management system. Representatives of cities, regions, but also the Ministry of Trade and Industry expressed great interest in the project COBRAMAN and its outputs in the ensuing discussion. There were discussed other options of investment from the EU, state and Usti region to pilot locality Lake Most at the end of the workshop.

Workshop for Strategies of Marketing on our pilot site Epple Area (organised by PP2 City of Stuttgart)
The Stuttgart COBRAMAN team held a strategic workshop, developing further the marketing strategy for the Area Quellenstraße. Members of the municipality and external experts gathered on site to get an impression of the situation. The following day, the participants joined as working team, intensely discussing the future vision, target groups and messages of the site. COBRAMAN as european brownfield development project was presented by Regine Zinz, Stuttgart´s responsible project manager.


KRANJ, SLOVENIA 20 July 2010

Developing the organisation - Establishment of the working group for the implementation of the Brownfield manager into the exsisting Municipial structure (organised by PP6 City of Kranj)
The purpose of the working group is an inter-municipal cooperation on a pilot project - Railway Station Kranj. To achieve better results the problems are solved in the working group that is consist of experts from various fields (law, economics and finance, social, PR, planning, environmental protection, construction, ...).

The third meeting with brownfields owners (organised by PP7 Usti nad Labem)
Following presentation on the continuous works of Usti team within COBRAMAN partnership, the main results of brownfield inventory were presented and discussed. After that, the brownfields‘ effects on future development of Usti were highlighted. This was followed by introduction of Usti‘s Strategy for brownfield redevelopment draft. The meeting also offered a chance to brownfield owners to consult their specific issues with a brownfield expert.

Following Usti‘s Master Plan Concept introduction, the results of brownfield data collection were presented and discussed. After that, the strongest messages given by the data were highlighted. The explanation of what is coming next – creation of the strategy for Usti’s brownfields regeneration - was presented. Strategic tools discussed. This was followed by consultations for brownfield owners to their specific issues with a brownfield expert.

Following the basic presentation of COBRAMAN, the definition of brownfields in general and the reasons for their revitalization were presented and discussed. After that, the importance of collection of information on brownfields and legal aspects of the data collection in the Czech Republic were highlighted. The “UAP”- an urban planning tool in the Czech Republic that concerns brownfield sites was presented. National and international funding possibilities discussed. This was followed by a brownfield inventory workshop for Usti city employees involved in the COBRAMAN project. The meeting also offered a chance to brownfield owners to consult their specific issues with a brownfield expert.
