SIPRO - FORMER SUGAR MILLS
The pilot site is located in the outskirt of the town of Comacchio, a touristic area with an historical city centre and sea resorts. The site was reclaimed in the 20th century and then eamarked for agriculture. The sugar mill was built in 1951, in the year 2000, upon the closing down of the sugar mill, SIPRO purchased the whole land and started for an overall surface of 345,000 sqm.
The location is very sensitive as Comacchio is a major tourist destination and within a protected natural site, therefore the regeneration plans have to take into account the idea to redesign a portion of territory as part of a comprehensive enviornmental, economic, cultural and architectural project.
Objectives and activities of the planned pilot project are:
• identify a regeneration plan considering the surrounding territory and its special location (high quality plan);
• use renewable energies;
• attraction of investors and enhancement of the labour market.
