THE CITY CENTRE BY THE BRDA RIVER BANKS
The pilot project area of 1100 m2 is a part of a territory with a long industrial history. There used to be a roofing paper factory which exploited the tar from the neighbouring gas work station. In the post-war time it was turned into a bus depot and other services. These activities affected the existing land conditions and caused soil and groundwater contamination. The area’s central location and its close proximity to the Brda river allows it to gain a new recreational function.
The area is now an abandoned land contaminated with PHA, BTEX, phenols and oils. The main challenge is to clean up the soil and groundwater in the most efficient way using the innovative methods and taking into consideration the present reclamation process of neighbouring area.
Objectives and activities of the planned pilot project are:
• ground and groundwater tests;
• preparation of planning documents;
• implementation of innovative reclamation methods;
• development of recreation area.
